A Dominican attacks woman, kidnaps her baby and barricades himself in Brooklyn

NEW YORK. -The 32-year-old Cristian Ceballos, attacked his wife wildly Wednesday, kidnapped the couple’s one-month-old son and then barricaded himself in a Brooklyn building, threatening to throw the baby on the pavement. Ceballos, exploded in demented laughter when he was taken into custody and sent to psychiatry for a mental health assessment.

Dozens of SWAT police and the Rapid Response Unit, with long weapons and equipment, as well as a drone aircraft, in the middle of the Amber Alert, engaged in a massive hunt against Cristian Ceballos, who when surrounded, decided to surrender without incident to the police.

Before taking the child from the apartment where he lives with his mother in the Jackson Heights neighborhood of Queens, Cristian Ceballos left her bleeding profusely as a result of the beating.

Investigators said that Ceballos left the mother in a pool of blood in his apartment in Jackson Heights, Queens and then escaped with the child in his arms, which led to a hunt in the two counties.

Police received an emergency call about the location of Ceballos in Brooklyn shortly before 11:30 am on Wednesday.

The police said the Dominican threatened several times to throw his baby into the void, but was convinced by the police negotiators, who managed to rescue the baby and deliver it to relatives.

Ceballos, who was not armed as confirmed by the police and after surrendering was arrested and charged with numerous serious charges, including domestic violence, kidnapping and endangering the welfare of the baby.

The abduction of the newborn child occurred after Ceballos and the mother had a bitter argument over the custody of the child.

The incident occurred at 5:30 in the morning on the third floor of a housing complex located between 84th Street and 37th Avenue, where the mother of the newborn, 27 years old, was found beaten severely, said police.

The woman, who has not been identified, was unconscious and bloodied, so she was taken to the Elmhurst hospital.

Hours after the incident, the mother had the baby in her arms, after the police handed it over first to the maternal grandmother.

The Amber alert, which by law must be activated in these cases, was created in memory of Amber Hagerman, a 9 year old girl kidnapped, raped and murdered in Arlington (Texas) in 1996 and used when children are abducted by relatives or individuals .

The alert must appear simultaneously in all US media, billboards on the roads, sent to cell phones and other digital devices.
