A cell phone video captured the moment before a Texas police officer shot and killed a woman who said she was pregnant.
Public opinion is divided over whether the shots were justified.
The policeman was patrolling an apartment complex in the Houston suburb of Baytown on Monday night when he saw a woman he knew from previous encounters, police in Baytown said. A member of the family identified the woman as Pamela Shantay Turner.
The agent knew that the woman, 45, had pending arrest warrants and tried to stop her, according to the police.
The video of a witness’s cell phone shows the woman yelling at the policeman:
“I’m walking! I’m walking home! “He shouts. Then he says that the policeman is “harassing” her.
The video shows the agent apparently trying to handcuff the woman, but she is released. The policeman shoots his Taser paralyzing gun and the woman slowly falls to the ground.
There is a struggle and the woman continues shouting “Why?”, But you can not hear the police answer.
While the agent is still trying to arrest the woman, she waves her arms and shouts: “I’m pregnant!”
The struggle continues and, according to Baytown police, the woman “took control of the taser and used it against the agent.”
