A total of 700 people will try to break record by dancing merengue in the Zona Colonial

Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic – At least 350 couples dancing merengue in the Colonial Zone, in a synchronized way, will try to break the record set by Russia in 2013 of 330 couples.

The initiative is carried out by producer Alberto Zayas.

“A pal record ‘merengue‘ will be held in November. The couples will be selected by casting in the main cities of the country, as well as in the different dance schools.

“We want everyone to come together and form a great team of professionals so that we can establish another challenge and in which we can show how proud we are of our merengue,” Zayas explained.

The progress of this project will be transmitted in the form of capsules by channel 11 Telesistema. Zayas thanked everyone for the support of this project and indicated that a special merengue will be recorded for the occasion.

He also thanked all the people and institutions that have trusted in this project and invited the Dominican people to echo this, watching the capsules, making their comments on the networks and supporting the couples of dancers who will star in “Un record pal” Merengue“.

The rhythmic influences of merengue are Spanish, African and indigenous, and their words are the narrations of everyday life in the country. His basic musical training is composed of the cuatro, the guitar, the güira, the tambora and the tambourine.

The merengue is a cultural expression of the Dominican Republic, with time it has become known and danced around the world, which was declared by Unesco, as Intangible Heritage of Humanity.
