Mayor Abel Martínez Duran, protected by Law 176-07 of the National District and Municipalities and Municipal Ordinance No. 3066-14 that regulates the Concession of Honors and Distinctions of the Santiago City Council and mourning, three days of Municipal Mourning, for the death of the Santiago artist Víctor José Víctor Rojas (Víctor Víctor), starting this Monday, July 20.
The Administrative Provision 08-2020 provides that the National and Municipal Flags remain at half mast during the said period and that this provision is sent by before the Council of Councilors of Santiago, for homologation purposes, and that it be published on our institutional portals.
For this decision, the municipal executive took into account the power of the municipalities to declare mourning for the loss of prominent personalities who have left a legacy of good examples and values that contribute to the development of society.
The Disposition emphasizes that, in Víctor Víctor, he was born on December 11, 1948 in Santiago de los Caballeros, in the populous neighborhood of Los Pepines and that the Dominican Republic had one of the most prolific, musician and composer of all kinds and song genres, especially social content.
To justify the declaration of municipal mourning for the sensitive loss of the prominent citizen, it is pointed out that, apart from being a great artist, he was also a social activist, always committed to social struggles, seeking claims in favor of the most vulnerable.
It is also recalled that Víctor Víctor participated in the legendary cultural artistic event of greatest significance presented in the Dominican Republic, “7 Days with the People”, as part of the Nueva Forma group, along with artists such as Claudio Cohen and Sonia Silvestre , among other great exponents of the so-called protest songs.
Víctor Víctor, in addition to being a singer-songwriter, was also a great advertising creative and ventured with resounding success in musical genres, such as Merengue, Son, Boleros, Ballads, Salsa, Jazz and Bachata, putting artists in this last genre to sing this rhythm world famous as Joan Manuel Serrat, Víctor Manuel, Pedro Guerra, Vicente Feliu, Pablo Milanés, Fito Páez, Silvio Rodríguez and Joaquín Sabina.
The mayor Abel Martínez, has considered that Víctor Víctor, is a Santiago de Compostela, the author of hundreds of songs, recorded by famous international artists, such as Celia Cruz, Felipe Pirela, Danny Rivera and Enmanuel, among many other great artists.
Given the sad fact that on July 16 of this year, Víctor Víctor lost the battle against the Covid-19 coronavirus, World Pandemic, which has killed hundreds of thousands of people around the world, which has mourning to the universal artistic world, to the Dominican Republic and especially to our city of Santiago de los caballeros, of which he was one of his most honored sons.
In January of last year, Mayor Abel Martínez and the Municipal Council declared the deceased artist Víctor Víctor as “Distinguished Son of the Municipality of Santiago”, capturing a beautiful city mural in his honor.
