SANTO DOMINGO. The Association of Art Writers (Acroarte) will recognize the musical career of merenguero Alex Bueno with a Special Soberano, which will be delivered next Tuesday, March 19, at the 35th anniversary of the Soberano Awards.
Álex Bueno has cultivated a string of successes to the rhythm of merengues, bachatas and salsas for four decades, which allowed him to become one of the most versatile interpreters of tropical music in the Dominican Republic.
Among his most emblematic songs is: “Colegiala”, “Corazón de madera”, “La radio”, “Dime cuándo tú”, “Me muero por ella”, “Querida”, “Me va, me va”, “Corazón de madera”, “Jardín prohibido”, “Amor divino”, “Ojitos negros”, “El hijo mío”, “Hipócrita”, “Por ella”.
The Special Sovereign was instituted by Acroarte in 1987 and is awarded in “recognition to the artist who has made important contributions to art and culture, of exceptional artistic work in the field of any of the arts that are awarded in Soberano Awards.” The pianist Michael Camilo was the first to receive this distinction.
Johnny Ventura (1989), Milly Quezada (1990), Felix del Rosario (1996), Wilfrido Vargas (1999), Los Hermanos Rosario (2005), Dioni Fernández (2007) make up the group of merengueros that have been recognized with the Special Sovereign . Álex Bueno was nominated for the awards as Musical Grouping in 1985, Concert of the Year for “Ternuras” and Orquesta del año in 1994.
It is recalled that the 2019 Soberano Awards, organized by Acroarte and CND, will be presented by Milagros Germán and will be held on March 19 at the National Theater, will be transmitted through channel 5 Telemicro, and co-sponsored by Viva.
