NEW YORK. The Dominican consulate general recognized the popular bachatero Joe Veras, for his contributions to the national culture, in an emotional act in which Consul Carlos A. Castillo gave him a scroll highlighting the career of the singer-songwriter who has won numerous international hits between these “El Molde”, “El Hombre De Tu Vida” and “Que se mueran de envidia”.
Castillo, who called Veras a teacher, said the bachatero is one of the most emblematic and outstanding figures of Dominican bachata, being one of the most acclaimed international figures of that genre.
The recognition was given to him in the main hall of the consular headquarters, crowded by hundreds of Dominicans who came looking for services.
Veras, has more than 20 years as one of the creators and interpreter of bachata, whose productions are among the most pristine by critics of the genre.
In acknowledging the recognition, he said that he received it on behalf of all his followers in the Dominican Republic, the United States and Latin America.
“Joe Veras has been an artist without stains, an example for current and new generations, so this consular headquarters, on behalf of the Dominican Government, urges him to continue being a worthy cultural ambassador of ours. Thank you teacher Joe for your contributions to our Dominican culture abroad, “said Consul Castillo.
The diplomatic official also handed a replica of the Dominican flag to the bachatero.
“Thank you for this great recognition,” said Veras. “I receive it on behalf of all my fans, especially from my country, the Dominican Republic, who has given me so much. Thank God for allowing me to receive it, “he added with moving words.
At the end of the activity the native singer-songwriter from Cotuí, Dominican Republic, performed “El Molde”, one of his most successful bachatas, and gave an acoustic guitar to Consul Castillo.
The activity was coordinated by Elías Barreras Corporán and Haile Rivera, communications directors and the headquarters community office.
Veras is currently doing a promotional tour in the United States supported by the Global Marketing USA company, chaired by the journalist Félix Jerez.
