Dominican Republic confirms its first case of coronavirus

Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. – The Ministry of Public Health confirmed the first case of coronavirus imported (COVID-19) in the Dominican Republic.

Minister Rafael Sánchez Cárdenas reported that it is an Italian citizen who arrived in the country without symptoms of the virus.

The information was offered through a press conference in which other health authorities of the country and the Emergency Operations Service (COE) participate.

Public Health asks the population to take the official information offered by that entity andnot be alarmed by the unofficial texts disseminated through social networks.

The confirmed Italian is in the Ramón de Lara military hospital, located in San Isidro. The director of the hospital said that the patient arrived at dawn on February 29.

It ensures that the patient is given necessary medical support, and that the symptomatology he presents is cough.

Similarly there is another patient who is under observation and waiting for laboratory samples.

This is a patient of French nationality, 56 years old.

The director of the Ramón de Lara hospital, meanwhile, explained that the patient was received at 12:50 in the morning today. He has already undergone the corresponding tests to confirm or rule out the virus.

“Outside of this symptomatology, the patient is normal, the place exams were performed, and once he was confirmed he is being given medical support according to the symptoms he may present,” said the specialist.

The COE director, General Juan Manuel Méndez, the director of the Department of Epidemiology participated in the press conference, held at the Ministry of Public Health.
