Participación Ciudadana condemns repressive actions in front of Congress

Santo Domingo, Dominican RepublicParticipación Ciudadana (Citizen Participation) (PC) repudiated on Tuesday actions against the National Congress by military agents against several deputies and citizens opposed to the project of constitutional reform to enable the re-election of President Danilo Medina, alleging that it was an open violation of freedom of expression .

The general coordinator of PC, Heiromy Castro, argued that every citizen has the right to express, dissent and demonstrate peacefully, and more when it manifests itself with a possible intention to modify the Constitution

, because it demanded the immediate withdrawal of the fence and intimidating militarization in the vicinity of the National Congress.

“The Constitution of our country has been modified more than 30 times since 1844, and in most cases has been to allow the re-election of rulers. Modifying the Constitution for a second consecutive government is already a dare, doing it for a third party is more than unconstitutional and exceeds the limits of tolerance of Dominican society, “Castro said.
