With calls to “not forget” the United States commemorates 18 years of the terrorist attacks of September 11

On September 11, 2001, nineteen men hijacked four American commercial airplanes loaded with fuel that were heading to several west coast destinations. In total 2,977 people were killed in New York City, Washington and outside of Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

The attack was orchestrated by al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.

Americans commemorate with ceremonies, volunteering, exhorts to “never forget” and calls for attention to the growing number of lifeguards who have died or become ill after the terrorist attacks.
