Giovanni Pimentel, a young man of just 20 years old who was stabbed in the heart on Saturday 21 in The Bronx, died yesterday after being removed from life support at the hospital.
Authorities said Pimentel was stabbed inside an apartment building on University Avenue on December 21 around 2 a.m.
It is not clear what led to the stabbing. NYPD released a video that captures the suspect walking down the street in a black jacket.
According to his mother, Pimentel was dating friends and was supposed to be home around 1 a.m., but he never arrived.
A witness told police that the stabber shouted something in Spanish during the attack. “Popote” was what he heard, which is a familiar phrase from the Trinitarios gang, associated with Dominicans.
Detectives say they are investigating all angles, News 12 reported.
